48-Hour Nutrition Certificate

The 48-hour Nutrition Certificate explores the fundamentals of nutritional medicine, the newest data on lifestyle, and advanced protocols for disease prevention and non-drug treatment options.

The program consists of four, 12-hour weekend sessions. You may take one or all sessions. Hours from the program apply toward the Nutrition Diplomate and the Certified Clinical Nutritionists (CCN) program offered by the Clinical Nutrition Certification Board. The full program also fulfills the educational requirements of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Examining Board.

Session 1 Sept. 19-20, 2015

Nutrition counseling, initial screen and nutrition physical exam; diet history-taking; lab data analysis; symptoms of severe vitamin or nutrient deficiencies; toxicity of excess supplementation; macronutrient needs and symptoms of deficiencies; vitamin or dietary reference intakes; mineral or metal needs; and, the biochemistry of essential and non-essential nutritional supplements.

Session 2 Oct. 24-25, 2015

Codex Alimentarius Commission; dietary supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 and related regulations; etiology of organ system dysfunction; internal medicine diseases and conditions; efficacy, safety, risks and benefits of glandular products, chelation therapy and therapeutic enzymes; contraindications, side effects and toxic effects of botanicals, nutritional supplements and diet products; and, fiber needs.

Session 3 Nov. 21-22, 2015

Supplements and nutrition; therapeutic uses of botanical medicine; food compositions and food as a vitamin source; and, weight management and control.

Session 4 Dec. 12-13, 2015

Sports nutrition, endurance, body building and exercise physiology; nutrition across the life cycle; nutrition relating to infants, pregnancy and lactation; food, drug and nutritional supplement interactions; and, safety and efficacy of nutritional supplementation.
